I suggested for Endre Hals from Fri Flyt to make this machine after having taken part in ski testing a couple of years earlier. He was eager to take part, and provided us with feedback of his current manual strategy for measuring skis.
This being the first really technical design course where the actual function of the final product was tested rather than the thought function, a lot of time was spent making a working prototype. In the end we had a working prototype and a working technical CAD-model (animation on CD). The prototype consisted of PLS, pneumatic system for fastening the ski and electrical engines for the measuring probes.
All the times spent in the workshop manufacturing a millimetrically perfect model was incredibly challenging but a great learning experience. And the fact that all this work resulted in a perfectly working prototype was a big encouragement.
